School feeding in Bangladesh helps Mojirdul concentrate in class.

There are 86 students in Mojirdul’s grade 5 class, and he is the top student. Mojirdul has a natural talent for mathematics and also enjoys English, which he demonstrates very well.

Mojirdul is a confident boy who excels at school, and given the chance, he would do very well in high school and college. The only thing stopping him will be money.

Poor family

Mojirdul comes from a poor family. His father works as a rickshaw puller and earns very little, while his mother works in the home.

His father often gets sick and is unable to work everyday, putting extra strain on the family. His younger brother is still at home, and his older sister is in high school, which luckily for the family, is free for girls.

“We don’t have enough food at home. I don’t know what feeling full feels like,” says Mojirdul. Despite his situation, Mojirdul is a positive and optimistic student, excited about learning and hopeful that he will be able to continue next year, when he is due to start high school.

Fortified biscuits:

Mojirdul says that the WFP fortified biscuits provided to his school, Bag Danga Government Primary School in Kurigram, help him a lot.

When he gets home, Mojirdul helps his mother with washing and cleaning, and after his chores, he also spends time on his homework. He is hopeful for the future.

“My dream is to be a magistrate,” beams Mojirdul, as he sits at his desk at school with his books around him. “I want to work for society.”
