Marketing & Communications Director

The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC), a national non-profit organization, is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our team as Marketing and Communications Director. The Marketing and Communications Director will research, plan, develop, and implement a marketing and communications strategy that will increase and sustain public awareness and encourage support of the organization. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Computer proficiency and ability to travel is a must.

Duties:
Work with the Development Director and program managers to research and identify marketing and communication needs and opportunities, and develop, manage, and implement marketing and communication strategies in order to communicate the mission of ALBC and add value to conservation and fundraising efforts.

Work with and persuasively convey the mission of ALBC to a wide range of people – program leadership, members, donors, board members, partners, and the public – in order to develop, negotiate, and/or implement programs and projects to spread the word about ALBC and it’s work.

Increase staff and board knowledge and understanding of marketing by educating staff and ALBC members on the role and importance of marketing.

Assume responsibility for managing and directing outside design consultants, printing and distribution companies, exhibitions and trade show vendors, copywriters, and video/production companies.

Create and edit promotional material including press releases, email alerts, and feature stories.

Assume overall responsibility for the production and publication of the newsletter, breeders directory, and other ALBC publications.

Assume overall responsibility for the quality and content of the ALBC website.

Qualifications
-Commitment to the mission and values of The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy
-Four-year degree with an emphasis in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or business equivalent
-Strong research, creative writing, editing, communication, and organizational skills
-Strong leadership and influencing skills
-Proficiency with MS office and computer design programs (Adobe, Illustrator, etc)
-Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Development Director

The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC), a national non-profit consrvation organization, is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our team as Development Director. The Development Director will work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to plan and manage fund-raising campaigns and activities, identify and cultivate relationships with current and potential donors to raise operational, endowment and capital funds. Successful fundraising and grant writing experience a must as well as excellent writing, research, and communication skills. Computer proficiency required.

Duties:
Cultivate and maintain close contacts with past and potential donors; develops and manages donor programs.

Produce solicitation materials and train volunteer solicitors for fund-raising campaigns.
 
Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to support Board members as they take on a more active fundraising role.

Track, analyze and report on fundraising activities and results

Handle acceptance and acknowledgement of in-kind donations.

Maintain regular communication with donors.

Conduct occasional workshop training in the area of fundraising.

Qualifications

-Four-year degree, three or more years experience in non-profit development/fundraising.
-Must have a successful fund raising track record
-Strong writing, communication and organizational skills

Research and Technical Program Manager

The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy, a national non-profit conservation organization located in Pittsboro, NC, is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and knowledgeable individual to join its team as a Research and Technical Program Manager. This person will work with the Research and Technical Program Director and staff to research, plan, develop and implement breed conservation programs. Experience working with and knowledge of livestock and poultry husbandry or breeding required along with excellent writing, research, and communication skills. Computer proficiency and ability to travel is a must.

Duties
Implement specific conservation activities based on identified priorities

Write technical reports, articles, and other publications in support of ALBC’s conservation efforts

Provide technical support for the development and implementation of ALBC’s programs and annual meetings

Researche breeds in various areas of study such as DNA analysis, population dynamics, and husbandry systems

Network with the ALBC Technical Advisory Council, breeders, breed associations, conservation organizations, and other groups

Present substantive material at workshops and conferences locally and nationally

Provide phone and email support for technical questions regarding livestock, poultry, and breed conservation

Qualifications
-Commitment to the mission and values of The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy
-Four-year degree required preferred; three or more years of hands-on experience with livestock and/or poultry husbandry required
-Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, web browsing, and email skills required
-Strong command of the English language; proficiency in writing and public speaking
-Good organizational skills
-Good library research skills
-Critical thinking, creative problem solving, and diplomacy skills required
-Ability to work in the field and in the office both independently and as part of a team
-Familiarity with population management strategies and software a plus
-Familiarity with sustainable farming systems
