J'Son signs with Lamp Mode Records, cehck out the interview...

J'Son is one of Christian Hip-Hop's upcoming talents impacting the world abroad. You've probably heard him on Flame's project or some of Reach Records albums. J'son was born and raised on the northside of St. Louis, MO. Though a 116 affiliate J'Son has signed with a label other than Reach Records... check out the interview and see how and why he choose Lamp Mode.

Anonymous :: For them dudes living under a rock somewhere, how would you tell them who J'son is?

J'Son :: Json is just regular dude man. I grew up in Saint Louis and started rapping secular at 12. Long story short, the Lord rocked my life at 21 and here I am. Married with two children and longing for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Anonymous :: Prop's on the album homie, I thought you were very passionate. Tell us what had God done through you via "Life on Life?"

J'Son :: Life On Life was a beast for me man. The Lord used this project first to bless me and grow me. It has also been an encouragement to see others be blessed and challenged by the project as well.

Anonymous :: I bumped into Esso at Flavor Fest'08 and he mentioned that Lamp Mode signed you along with a few other artists, like Hazakim. While excited, I was a bit taken aback since your artistry is outside of the trademark sound that Lamp Mode Records produces -- tell us how this partnership came about? Give us the behind the scenes :)

J'Son :: Its crazy. This was never talked about man. It's not really a behind the scenes thing. Esso hit me up by email and said they would like to release the project. Honestly I was just as taken aback as you probably were. I'm like, "LAMPMODE WOW." I really got with the Lord and felt that this would be a good move.

Anonymous :: Random Question: My wife wants me to buy her the Nintendo Wii, in your opinion which is the better system Wii or Playstation 3?

J'Son :: Yo check this out, if you want a family game the Wii is good. I am a xbox 360 man myself. Gears Of War BABY!

Anonymous :: Here is the question most cats are probably itching to ask, from a business perspective, why Lamp Mode (undergound, nationally inexperienced) over Reach Records (national label, possibly the #1 Christian Hip-Hop label)? Now tells us your reason from a personal level since your not only affiliated with 116 but good friends with them dudes? Tell us about the God factor in how He lead you in this decision.

J'Son :: The Lord just did not allow it to come together. Its funny though because in my mind it was only right that I would sign with Reach. I thought it was just a matter of time. No matter what we just could not get it to fit, whether it was time or convo, it just did not come together. With Lampmode though it seemed like everything I thought was being rocked. Now also don't get it twisted, Lampmode may not be nationally experienced but I notice how these brothers have stewarded well what the Lord has provided them with. That's what was important to me.

Anonymous :: J'son would you share your heart on the current state of Christian Hip-Hop? From the artists to the labels.... where are we today and whre do we need to be?

J'Son :: Certainly. A lot of growth is needed. Part of me is scared of Christian Hip-Hop because dudes get miss-focused. Their evangelism becomes their cds. Their ministry involvments becomes limited to doing a concert. It kind of reminds me of the Corinthian gift, it was the "showee" thing to do. Every young dude wants to do music even though life looks like crap. On the flip side I have seen people grow in their love for Jesus, not just from the music. Please get this. I think its mainly because they see the passion for Christ that the person behing the music has. People have been brought out of false doctrine which makes me rejoice. These are the things the Lord reminds me of to keep me encouraged.

Anonymous :: Should we expect a new project releasing through Lamp Mode or will you be re-releasing "Life on Life?" If you are re-releasing the project should we expect any added goodies, Lamp Mode collabo's, etc.? When is it dropping?

J'Son :: I will be releasing Life On Life through Lampmode. No added songs. But the album has been remixed and re-mastered.

Anonymous :: Random Question: What is your take on the "Economic Crisis" America is facing?

J'Son :: This economy is a beast man but remember God is sovereign, so trust in Him to manage your money well.

Anonymous :: What is the Game Plan for J'son in the new venture with Lamp Mode Records? Should we expect the same J'son sound or will you be experimenting a lil with the underground? You will get the same sound from me.

J'Son :: I am not an underground sound rapper at all. You can expect growth as an artist because I feel I can learn a lot from the my new label mates.

Anonymous :: Tell us what to expect from J'son and Lamp Mode in the next few months? When is the project dropping?

J'Son :: Right now the project is available through Infinity Distribtion. So stores can order this joint right now. So if its not available at your store please request for them to pick it up. Where can cats cop the album? From Christian bookstores for now. Where can folks go to learn more about J'son? You can go to www.json116.com to check out music or myspace.com/json116

Anonymous :: Share whatever is in your heart, the platform is yours.

J'Son :: I want to thank everybody for their support. Please if you have the money available, go to the stores and purchase the album. Tell your friends to get the album. Go to your bookstores and request that they carry the project.

J'son makes several good points. Most important - ministry first! Work it into your set. Plan on ministering after the 'show'. If you're a sheppard, put your sheep to work - make sure they leave your concert with something to do to practice accountability. Antoher point -- Christian's need fans and supporters of Christian products to be a louder voice in the air! Demand to hear more Christian music like J'son's project in the Christian and secular stores. Let them know your money is green and you demand more Christian products in your media outlets to support your spiritual life in Christ! In addition, get ready to respond when the 111th Congress is in session by supporting H.R. 4789, the Performance Rights Act so artists can get paid for radio airplay. Christian's rise up and let your voices are heard!
