The mission of the Great Basin Coordinating Group is to enhance the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of interagency fire management activities, and to respond to and support non-fire emergencies, as necessary. Meetings of the Great Basin Coordinating Group are held twice per year (spring and fall) or as necessary due to issues and concerns of the wildland fire community.
As a fire season progresses, the GBCG functions as the Great Basin Multi-Agency Coordinating (MAC) Group. As the MAC Group, the members prioritize incidents, allocate, relocate, and acquire resources, plan for contingency activities, and respond to media, agency, and common issues that cross agency boundaries.
