Welcome to the Trees and Markets theme

The Trees and Market theme began in 2003, evolving out of two former ICRAF global programmes. This involved combining the whole of former Programme 2 (Tree Domestication) with the germplasm, marketing and scaling up elements of Programme 4 (Advancing Impact and Innovation).

During the period 2004-2006 the theme was described according to five focal areas and 17 outputs; although from 2007 these have been condensed to three focal areas and 8 outputs.

The focal area on Agroforestree Germplasm (TM1) is supported globally by the Germplasm Resources Unit (GRU). The other two are Tree Domestication (TM2) and Marketing of Agroforestry Tree Products (TM3)

Highlights

- Trees and Markets coordinates the CGIAR high-value crop workshops at the World Agroforestry Centre headquarters

- The World Agroforestry Centre partners with UNEP in the Billion Tree Campaign

Cluster 4: The Trees and Markets Theme is now under Cluster 4 together with South Asia (SA), West and Central Africa (WCA) and the Germplasm Resources Unit (GRU)

Sygenta has set aside Euros 24 million to plant 20,000 trees in the region as part of its activities to mark its fifth anniversary. The project will be conducted in partnership with the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF).

Trees and Markets and the Mount Kenya East Pilot Project (MKEPP) signs a Programme of Project Implementation.
