Supportive Care - Featured Clinical Trials
1. Preventing Respiratory Infections in Patients with CLL (Posted: 10/21/2008) - This Featured Clinical Trial is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to test the ability of CVT-E002 (COLD-fx) to reduce acute respiratory infections and the need for antibiotic treatment during the peak respiratory illness season (January through March) in people with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
2. Preventing Mucositis in Head and Neck Cancer Patients (Posted: 03/20/2007, Updated: 06/17/2008) - In this trial, patients undergoing combination chemotherapy and radiation therapy (chemoradiotherapy) for advanced head and neck cancer will receive intravenous palifermin or placebo before and during cancer treatment to prevent mucositis, a common but serious side effect of chemoradiotherapy for this type of cancer.
3. Preventing Chemotherapy-Induced Neuropathy (Posted: 04/03/2007, Updated: 02/19/2008) - In this trial, researchers are testing the ability of an antioxidant supplement called alpha-lipoic acid to prevent peripheral neuropathy caused by the platinum-containing drugs cisplatin and oxaliplatin.
4. Stress Management Therapy for Chemotherapy Patients (Posted: 01/08/2008) - In this study, patients with newly diagnosed cancer and scheduled to undergo chemotherapy will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group will receive standard psychosocial care along with stress management training, while the other will receive standard psychosocial care alone.
5. Carnitine Supplementation for Cancer-Related Fatigue (Posted: 01/03/2006, Updated: 11/07/2007) - In this trial, researchers will assess the prevalence of carnitine deficiencies in cancer patients and examine the effect of carnitine supplementation in patients experiencing moderate to severe fatigue.
