General Info on our Grant Programs

Our grant programs foster the development and adoption of IPM. They are an important part of the Northeastern IPM Center's mission and strategic plan.

We advertise new requests for applications (RFAs) via this website and our email and print mailing lists. If you would like to join our mailing lists, please contact us.

John Ayers manages the grants programs for the center. If you have questions about the grants database or need an RFA in another format, please contact Amy Galford. Phone numbers and mailing addresses are on the staff directory page.

Northeast Regional IPM Competitive Grants (RIPM)

The Northeast Regional Integrated Pest Management (RIPM) Competitive Grants Program funds research, extension, and combined projects in our region. The project director must be employed by certain colleges, universities, or agricultural experiment stations in the Northeast. USDA-CSREES and the IPM Center work together to administer this program.

The Request for Applications is released in early fall and the deadline is in late fall. The actual application is submitted via the federal government's grants.gov website. Progress and final reports on projects are submitted to USDA and to the Center.

More information on the RIPM program is available, including current application instructions and information on projects funded in previous years.

IPM Partnership Grants (including Minigrants)

Projects funded through the IPM Partnership Grants must further the mission of the Northeastern IPM Center, must address or identify regional IPM priorities, and must benefit the region at large. The IPM Partnership Grants Program seeks applications for six project types: (1) IPM Working Groups, (2) IPM Issues, (3) Regional IPM Publications, (4) IPM Planning and Assessment Documents, (5) State Network Projects, (6) IPM Minigrants. The primary project director must be from the northeastern region, but the eligibility for this program is broad. The Center has primary responsibility for administering this program. The first grants under this program were awarded in 2004.

The Request for Applications is released in early fall and the deadline is in December. Starting in fall 2008, the application is submitted via the center's online grants database system. Progress and final reports on projects are also submitted to the Center via the grants database system.

More information on the Partnership program is available, including current application instructions and information on projects funded in previous years.

Comparison of RIPM and Partnership Programs

The RIPM and Partnership grant programs both further the mission of the Center to foster development and adoption of IPM, but they differ in terms of eligibility, project types, funding amounts, and the application process.

The two programs are summarized and compared in this chart: Northeastern IPM Center Grants at a Glance (.pdf file, updated September 2008)

Other Center Grant Programs

The Pest Management Alternatives Program (PMAP) is a federal grant program administered by USDA. The Northeastern IPM Center helps provide regional priorities and relevance review for this program.

The Vegetable and Strawberry Educator Exchange Program is program run by the Northeast Vegetable IPM Working Group

In 2007, the Center ran a minigrant program after the Green-Blue summit on IPM and water quality.

Database of Center-funded Projects

The project reporting database is currently under construction in fall 2008. It will provide information on past Center-funded projects, and provide an online system for Project Directors to submit progress and final reports. It is also used to submit applications for the IPM Partnership grant program. Information in our database will be uploaded to a federal interagency database of IPM Projects.

Until the database is ready later in 2008, you can find information on projects here.

What Funds the Regional IPM Centers?

The Regional IPM Centers, including the Northeastern IPM Center, are funded by a USDA competitive grant program. Our web page with an overview of the Center, includes the mission statement and strategic plan.

IPM-related funding opportunities from other organizations

We provide a list of some current IPM-related funding opportunities from other organizations. At the bottom of that page is a general link to funding announcements from U.S. EPA and USDA-CSREES.
