Cody Horse Camp to Be Dedicated September 17

RANDLE, WA ––A dedication celebration for the newly constructed Cody Horse Camp on the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District is being planned for Saturday, September 17, 2005. The dedication ceremony will begin at 1 pm.

The new horse camp, conceived by former District Ranger Harry Cody, was planned and constructed with the generous assistance of the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation, the Lewis County Chapter of Backcountry Horsemen of Washington, and the White Pass School District Discovery Team.

The new campground is located 29 miles southeast of Randle, just off of Forest Road 5600059. The public is invited to join the dedication ceremony on September 17. The campground will formally open to the public following the dedication. For this year, use of the camp is free and no passes are required. This could change in the future as the recreation fee system expands guided by recent fee legislation.

The camp features 16 pull through campsites, each with picnic tables, fire rings, and highlines. The camp also provides a stock watering trough and hand pump, a CXT vault toilet, and a large day use area with a mounting assist ramp. The campground is located adjacent to the historic Klickitat trail system, and the Klickitat Horse Trail 7A.

For additional information, please contact the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District at 360-497-1100.
