Goal:
Promote Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles
Collaborate across FNS Programs and with community groups to
communicate consistent nutrition messages through multiple channels in
order to reduce the risk of overweight and obesity.
Objective 1:
By September 30, 2007, begin
implementing the master plan for the
Wisconsin Nutrition Education Network's
Learner Centered Education Project, 2007

Accomplishment:
-
Regular
WHEN meetings were conducted.
-
WNEN
developed and presented a poster at
FNS's "Raising the Bar:
Successful Collaborations Across
Programs" meeting in Chicago,
July 27, 2007, in Chicago. The
poster was entitled "Engage
Learners and Change Behavior Using
Learner Centered Approaches to
Nutrition Education."

WNEP
conducted Facilitated Dialogue
Training in every Extension
district. Partners were invited.

WNEP
pilot-tested the "Vary Your
Veggies" curriculum (adapted
from the Iowa WIC curriculum on the
2005 Dietary Guidelines and
MyPyramid) in four counties
(Waukesha, Portage, Winnebago, and
Burnett). Revisions were made based
on feedback and input from UWEX
Family Living specialists and a
second pilot was conducted in
summer, 2007. The final product will
be released to the rest of the state
at the end of 2007 or early in 2008.

Objective 2:
By September 30, 2007, formalize and
continue the work of the Wisconsin Food
Security Consortium that would provide
consistent messages access to nutritious
and affordable food to prevent food
insecurity and obesity.
Accomplishment:
-
The
Wisconsin Food Security Consortium (FSC)
continued to meet regularly,
co-chaired by Patti Herrick (DFHS)
and Kadi Row (UW Extension). The FSC
was purposeful and successful in
establishing a greater involvement
from the Food Stamp Program and the
Department of Public Instruction's
school meals.

A
Steering Committee was formed of
members from the FSC that met more
frequently and carried out the work
of the Consortium and By-Laws were
approved.

The
FSC Steering Committee planned a
successful Statewide Hunger Summit
attended by nearly 200. The agenda
included national speakers Patti
Whitney-Wise from the Oregon Hunger
Task Force and Lynn Parker from FRAC;
two state legislators; partners and
stakeholders from local pantries and
agencies, and state level program
managers. All attended to learn
about food insecurity and offered
insight and suggestions toward the
development of a statewide hunger
plan.
