National Zoo Commemorative Benches

Honor a special person or occasion with a commemorative bench at the National Zoo. A commemorative bench is a thoughtful and distinctive way to honor someone or something special while helping to beautify the Zoo and enhance the Zoo visitor experience.

Funds raised from commemorative benches support the Zoo’s mission to provide leadership in animal care, science, education, and sustainability.

The Benches

Commemorative benches have a classic park bench design and are made of ipe wood and steel. Ipe wood is a durable wood that is sustainably harvested and does not need to be chemically treated, in keeping with the Zoo’s commitment to sustainability.

Benches will be personalized with a message of the donor’s choosing on a 10” x 5” bronze plaque. Plaque inscriptions may be up to four lines with 20 characters per line, including punctuation. The plaque is prominently installed on the front of the bench.

Cost

A commemorative bench will be installed for a 100-percent tax-deductible donation of $5,000.

Timing

Plaques will be ordered after the $5,000 donation has been received. Donors should allow about ten weeks from that date for their bench to be placed in the park.
