Student Tours : Guided Student Tours

Guided Student Tours





Student tours are designed to adhere to the local curriculum standards of the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. A chart, detailing curriculum connections is provided for each tour. For self-guided student tours, click here.

Guided student tours are offered at 10:30 a.m. weekdays, September through May. Reservations for guided tours must be made at least three weeks in advance. To schedule a guided student tour, call 202-633-5535 (voice) or 202-633-9849 (TTY). A lunch room may be reserved by school groups for brown bag lunches.

Let's Deliver Mail
Preschool-Kindergarten
Accommodates up to 15 students
Duration: 30 minutes
Learn about letter carriers and the jobs they do. Discover different vehicles used to move the mail and deliver mail to Owney the dog.

Stamp Stampede
Kindergarten - 3rd grade
Accommodates up to 60 students
Duration: One hour
Travel back in time to learn the history of transportation and mail delivery. Use play money to pay postal workers for their work. Create a stamp collection.

International Stamps Exhibit


Moving the Mail West
4th Grade-8th Grade (Tours adapted to each grade level)
Accommodates up to 60 students
Duration: One hour
Discover how the improvements in the transportation moving the mail west made it easier for people to move west. Become a historian and analyze primary sources and make conclusions. Experience working as a railway employee.
