Corps, local officials to dedicate levee repairs >
Portland, Ore. – The Portland District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Cowlitz County Consolidated Diking Improvement District No. 1 will host a dedication ceremony to mark the completion of recent repairs to the "Longview Levee."
The event will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18, at the Diking Improvement District’s main office, 5350 Pacific Way, Longview, Wash.
U.S. Representative Brian Baird (D-WA), members of the Cowlitz County Commissioners office, and members of the Longview City Council are scheduled to attend. A member of Sen. Patty Murray’s staff also will be in attendance.
The Corps recently completed bank protection repairs to 2,500 feet of the "Longview Levee" along the Columbia River west of Longview, providing the citizens of Longview a greater amount of protection than has been available in the past several years. The Corps strengthened the riverside of the levee by placing rock-filled wire baskets along the face of the levee to reduce erosion on the structure.
This event will mark the culmination of many years of cooperation and partnership between the two agencies.
