Kristen Hileman's Pick: Anne Truitt

Night Naiad

With its barely visible shifts of color that wrap around an elegant column in surprising ways, Night Naiad is both a painting and a sculpture, as well as an artwork that challenges perception. The work exists as an exercise in seeing and thinking—testing the connection between eye and brain not only in terms of perceiving and evaluating its nuanced colors but also in associating those colors with personal memories or moods. The piece engages my intellect, my emotions, and my sense of beauty.
