In 2002, FNS began a project to
provide training and technical support
to help States develop comprehensive community-based breastfeeding
programs. The goal of the project is to raise public
awareness,
acceptance and support of breastfeeding using social marketing
principles.
Each WIC State agency worked with numerous community partners
to develop strategies to address State-specific barriers.
Each State agency developed an Implementation Plan that
addressed the following components of a comprehensive social
marketing plan: Mobilizing Staff, Client and Family Education;
Public Awareness; Health Providers Outreach; and Community
Partnership building.
A summary of Loving Support™ Implemention
plans is available for each of the States awarded the 2002
or 2003 (NEW)
grants.
Best Start Social Marketing and the Mississippi State Department
of Health provide 2-day training sessions that bring together
WIC staff, community partners and stakeholders to develop
practical strategies to address State-specific barriers to
promoting and supporting breastfeeding.
