Video Conferencing in Action

SERC's distance learning programs, all supported by teacher-developed curriculum, bring Smithsonian science into classrooms and homes across the country. By participating in videoconferences or Electronic Field Trips, you have the opportunity to talk with expert scientists and educators at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center and possibly venture into places where on-site visitors seldom are permitted to go.

SERC will have wireless video conferencing equipment available in the fall. Stay tuned for some exciting places your students can visit!

SERC offers two types of distance learning:

• Videoconferences
  Smithsonian scientists and education specialists directly link with your classroom using IP. Students learn about various topics and are ale to ask questions and interact with SERC staff. Videoconferences are typically between 30 and 60 minutes long and can be scheduled on any non-federal holiday of the year between 7:00AM and 6:00PM.
• Electronic Field Trips
  SERC research and education staff also participate in live, interactive, satellite broadcasts that can be viewed simultaneously by millions of students nationwide. .
