‘Design your Dream Kitchen Workshops’ held at OSU

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Consumers will get a chance to learn the basic principles of kitchen design during the fourth annual Design Your Dream Kitchen workshops, held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 1 and March 8 on the Oregon State University campus.

Residents will get an opportunity to work with senior-level design students and professors from OSU’s Department of Design and Human Environment, as well as with professionals in kitchen design, construction and remodeling. Companies represented include Neil Kelly Company, Corvallis Custom Kitchen and Bath, and Kelly’s Home Center.

The fee is $125 for individuals and $155 to bring a spouse or partner. The registration fee includes an all-day course on basic design principles from the National Kitchen and Bath Association covering everything from where to put the sink to what kind of light bulbs to use. You’ll also learn why you should get a designer and tips on choosing one. Discover the ins and outs of drawing a kitchen plan, and hear about the latest kitchen trends. In addition, participants will receive one-on-one design consultations with the workshop instructors.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Materials will be provided both at the workshop and sent to participants prior to the workshop.

"We hope to help homeowners avoid costly mistakes during their design process," said Heather Van Eyk, an OSU interior design student. "A lot of times people go into remodels and think they are going to do all of it themselves, but then they run into costly snags. With a designer, you can avoid some of those pitfalls.”

The events are sponsored by the National Kitchen and Bath Association.

Space is limited, and registration information is available at http://oregonstate.edu/conferences/dreamkitchen/index.htm.

The workshop is coordinated by the OSU Student Kitchen and Bath Association and the Student Association of Home Builders, with all proceeds supporting their trip to the National Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Chicago this April.

About the OSU College of Health and Human Sciences: Emphasizing a holistic approach to optimal health and disease prevention, researchers focus on nutrition, physical activity, the psychology of aging improving the health of children and older adults, public policy, access to health care, and maximizing environmentally friendly materials and structures.
