Auditions Scheduled for ‘Much Ado About Nothing’

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Auditions are set for June 4 and 5 for Oregon State University Theatre’s production of “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Auditions will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. both days at the Withycombe Hall Theater on the OSU campus. Callbacks will be held in the quad of the Memorial Union from 6 to 9 p.m. June 6.

All OSU students and members of the community are welcome to audition.

The show is part of the second annual Bard in the Quad series, which features an outdoor summer production of a Shakespeare play. Last summer’s production of “Romeo and Juliet” was the highest attended event in the history of the Oregon State University Theatre program.

Actors are strongly encouraged to prepare a comic Shakespeare monologue of no more than two minutes in length for their audition.

“Much Ado About Nothing” is adapted and directed by Scott Palmer. The production, which is scheduled to open July 25, will be set during World War II and will feature large period set pieces, military uniforms and “Rosie the Riveter” costumes. The adapted script also will feature expanded roles for female characters.

Those who plan to audition for the play are asked to send an e-mail to Palmer at s.palmer120@comcast.net to confirm which night they plan to attend.

An audition workshop will be held at the Withycombe Lab Theater from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26. Any student or community member who is interested in learning more about auditioning for Shakespeare or who wishes to develop their audition skills is encouraged to attend. It is free.
