CORVALLIS, Ore. – A leading expert on community college innovation will speak on the importance of community colleges at the third annual Charles Carpenter Memorial Lecture on Friday, April 13, at Oregon State University.

Ron Baker, executive vice president of the Northwest Commission on College and Universities, will speak on “Community College Principles, Promises and Practices: Thoughts and Observations.” His talk begins at 7 p.m. in the CH2M-Hill Alumni Center’s Willamette Room on the OSU campus.

The free and public lecture is sponsored by OSU’s College of Education.

The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities is the regional accrediting agency for Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Nevada.

Prior to joining the commission, Baker was the founding chief academic office and vice president for Student Learning at Cascadia Community College in Bothell, Wash.
