Cujo Meets Pavlov: Workshop to Help Manage Aggression in Dogs

CORVALLIS, Ore - What can be done to reduce aggression in dogs, especially dogs on leash? The Oregon State University Extension Service is presenting a seminar to explore solutions for dog owners and animal professionals to understand, manage and modify dog aggression.

Nationally recognized animal behaviorist Kathy Sdao will present a day-long program on Saturday, Feb. 10, in Withycombe Hall Room 109 on the OSU campus in Corvallis.

”It is an important topic because aggression in dogs is so common, especially on-leash,” said Candace Croney, an animal behaviorist in OSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences, who is collaborating with Wonder Dogs of Philomath to present the program. “Who hasn't had some other dog go ballistic while you peacefully walk your own leashed dog?

“Or even worse, and more embarrassing, it might be your own dog who becomes aggressive,” she added.

Sdao, an associate Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, has spent the past 20 years as a professional animal trainer, helping dogs and their owners get along, making the science of animal behavior accessible and practical for dog trainers and owners alike. She will use video and live animals in demonstrations during the program. Participants will gain a better understanding of dog aggression and valuable tools for managing and changing the behavior.
