Former OSU Education Dean Writes Book on Children in Poverty

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Robert Barr, a courtesy professor in the College of Education at Oregon State University and former dean of the college, has co-authored a book on teaching children in poverty.

Barr, who served as dean in the College of Education from 1981 to 1991, co-authored “The Kids Left Behind: Catching Up the Underachieving Children of Poverty” with William Parrett, a professor of education at Boise State University. It was published by Solution Tree.

“Bob’s new book is particularly important to Oregon’s teachers and students,” said Sam Stern, dean of OSU’s College of Education.

Barr, who retired from Boise State University in 2006, has written or co-written 11 books, five since 1996. He lives in Newport, Ore.

Other books include “Saving Our Schools,” which will be re-released this year, and “Welcome to Middleton, a Training Simulation.”

About the OSU College of Education: The mission of the College of Education is to prepare, inspire and support teachers, counselors, educational leaders, researchers and volunteers to promote lifelong learning in schools, colleges, universities, communities and workplaces.
