Publications

With a recorded knowledge base that spans more than 125 years, AWWA is the world’s leading source of water information. AWWA’s publishing program encompasses everything from our flagship periodical, Journal AWWA, to AWWA standards and manuals, textbooks, award-winning videos, and conference proceedings. The publications employ a wide range of delivery methods, from traditional print to video, DVD, CD-ROM, e-mail and the Web.

Book Publishing

AWWA provides a full-service publishing program, professionally editing, producing, marketing, and selling handbooks, standards, manuals, youth and consumer education products, and bill stuffers. Drawing from the intellectual reservoir of AWWA members, the books program annually publishes about 20 new or revised titles of interest to water and wastewater professionals. The books are available for sale in the AWWA Bookstore, which lists more than 400 titles and also includes videos, select Awwa Research Foundation reports, acquired titles from outside publishers, and specialty items.

Magazines and Other Periodicals

AWWA periodicals are a core benefit for association members. A professional and scholarly publication in print for more than 90 years, Journal AWWA publishes timely, technically accurate, peer-reviewed information about water quality, resources, and supply and about the management and operation of water utilities. Opflow is the hands-on, practical publication for water supply operators with a straightforward, informative style that is popular among all AWWA members.

Journal AWWA and Opflow are published and mailed monthly, complemented online with e-Journal AWWA and Opflow Online.

AWWA also publishes an online newsletter. AWWA Streamlines, launched in January 2009, is a biweekly electronic newsletter that merges two earlier electronic AWWA publications, E-MainStream and WaterWeek. All AWWA members are eligible to receive the Streamlines e-mail with links to the online publication. Streamlines brings readers timely and targeted stories about regulatory and legislative developments, industry issues and trends, utility practices, research and new technologies, along with information about the AWWA community and resources.

Videos

AWWA’s award-winning video program is a leader in water operator training, customer service, and safety and security videos. Drawing on the expertise and experience of AWWA members, AWWA’s videos also address other current topics and technology affecting the water community. They are for sale in the AWWA Bookstore.

The Water Library®

The Water Library® provides online access to AWWA's unparalleled collection of scientific, professional, and technological knowledge for the world's water community. The Water Library, an ongoing initiative, has been a work in progress since the late 1990s when AWWA began to digitize its key information assets. Since that time, more than 35 years of Journal AWWA are in electronic format for delivery, and all AWWA standards, manuals of practice, a decade of proceedings, and articles from Opflow have been prepared for storage in this online archive.
