An NRCS “all-star” team of local conservationists, Earth Team volunteers, and the wetlands team from the Central National Technology Support Center (CNTSC) in Fort Worth, Texas, joined together to assist Louisiana State University (LSU) agricultural researchers in designing and building a constructed wetland system to treat agricultural non-point source runoff. The system was installed at the LSU Red River Research Station in Bossier Parish. Station scientists will conduct water quality monitoring over the next two years to

determine the effectiveness of the system in removing herbicides, nutrients, and sediment from station's runoff before it enters the Flat River. Wildlife and wetland plants will also be evaluated on the site. The wetlands receive runoff from approximately 400 acres of cropland and 50 acres of pastureland.
