Phoenix, AZ -- The Local Assistance Center in Wenden closes on Friday, Dec. 15, state and federal disaster recovery officials announced today. This is the last week for eligible residents who sustained losses or damage as a result of the Oct. 21 to Nov. 8 severe storms and flooding to meet face-to-face with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Arizona Division of Emergency Management (ADEM). The facility will reopen staffed with local representatives on Monday, Dec. 18.

The Local Assistance Center in Wenden is the last to close of four such centers set up by FEMA and ADEM to assist disaster victims. Earlier, Local Assistance Centers were located in Aguila, Salome and Wickenburg, as well as Wenden.

The facility in Wenden will reopen on Monday, Dec. 18 as an Information Center. Local representatives will be available. Also, loan officers from the U.S. Small Business Administration will continue to provide services to disaster loan applicants at this center.

"We will be continuing to work with our flood recovery applicants, even after we leave Wenden," State Coordinating Officer Michael P. Austin with ADEM said. Federal Coordinating Officer David Fukutomi added that "People can still call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-525-0321 to find out more about FEMA assistance programs and get information on the status of their applications."

Disaster victims who have not yet registered for state and federal assistance may still do so by calling toll-free 1-800-462-9029. Those with hearing or speech impairment can call TTY 1-800-462-7585.

Disaster assistance programs include housing assistance, grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not covered by insurance or other programs, and low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration for storm and flood damaged residential or business property.
