Dededo, GUAM -- Starting Thursday, December 26, FEMA and SBA staff along
with GovGuam agencies will be available at the Disaster Recovery Centers.
Here is important information for people planning to visit one of the
centers.
- FEMA, SBA and GovGuam agencies will be represented at the centers. The centers are designed to provide a one-stop location for people to obtain additional information about disaster recovery assistance.
- In addition to FEMA and SBA, these centers are providing food stamp and disaster unemployment assistance. Due to the number of services available, people planning to visit the centers starting December 26
should expect long lines and may want to plan their day accordingly.
- If people are planning to visit a center for the sole purpose of meeting with FEMA and SBA, they need to first register with
FEMA by calling 1-800-621-3362 (TTY 800-462-7585).
Register with FEMA first before visiting FEMA at the centers.
- People can register with FEMA by calling the 800 number from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. However, the teleregistration center will be closed December 26 in observance of the Christmas holiday on the
Mainland.
- People who have already registered with FEMA may want to wait a few days before visiting a center so they don't miss their appointment with the FEMA housing inspector.
- FEMA plans to remain at the disaster recovery centers for a long time. There will be plenty of opportunity for people to discuss their individual applications for assistance with FEMA and SBA at the centers.
- Be prepared before going to the Disaster Recovery Centers:
- Register with FEMA first
- Bring the your FEMA control number, social security number, and any insurance information
- If possible, wait until FEMA completes the damage inspection
of your home
- Keep your receipts
- FEMA will work one on one with each person who registers for assistance to determine eligibility for disaster housing programs. FEMA assistance will vary by family, based on need, eligibility, and extent of damages. As a reminder, federal disaster housing assistance is designed to help people with disaster related housing needs not covered by insurance. In most cases, this assistance will not cover the full extent of losses or damages. Low interest disaster loans from SBA are the primary source
of funds for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes for repairing disaster damaged private property.
