There will be several inaugural-related programs presented at the Museum the weekend leading up to the 56th Presidential Inauguration. Please see below for details, and information about temporary closures and cancellations at the Museum's main building and its Renwick Gallery. A special Smithsonian sales tent with inaugural souvenirs will be set up outside the museum's G Street entrance from January 16 through January 20. Hours are 11:30 to 7 p.m. For more information, please call the Museum Store at (202) 633-5450.

January 17

  • Inauguration-themed tours will be offered at the main museum building at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. No reservations required.
  • Docent tours at the Renwick Gallery are cancelled.

January 18

  • Inauguration-themed tours will be offered at the main museum building at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. No reservations required.
  • Docent tours at the Renwick Gallery are cancelled.
  • The Courtyard Café will close at 5 p.m.
  • The Lincoln 2.0 Inaugural Ball, organized by Destination DC, begins at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online; call the Lincoln 2.0 Inaugural Ball Hotline at (202) 237-0178 with questions. Proceeds will benefit the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the American Experience Foundation.

January 19

  • No docent tours will be offered at either location.
  • A limited menu will be offered in the Courtyard Café, which will close at 4:30 p.m.
  • The Luce Foundation Center and Kogod Courtyard will close at 5 p.m.

January 20

  • The Renwick Gallery will be closed to the public January 20.
  • No docent tours will be offered at either location.
  • The 3 p.m. Sketching: Draw and Discover! program is canceled; instead, the Luce Foundation Center will be offering a Presidential Scavenger Hunt from noon until 6 p.m. at its information desk on the third-floor mezzanine level.
  • A limited menu will be offered in the Courtyard Café, which will close at 5 p.m.
  • Kogod Courtyard will close at 6 p.m.
