Program in Latino History and Culture

The National Museum of American History established the Program in Latino History and Culture (PLHC) to present public programs that reflect the rich and distinctive history of Latino communities and cultures in the United States. These programs include lectures, films, family and children's programs, concerts, and other activities.

Within the Museum, PLHC staff work with exhibition planning teams and other colleagues to research, present, and highlight Latino topics in exhibitions and outreach programs. PLHC also promotes partnerships with local and national community-based organizations. In 2006, the Program in Latino History and Culture produced two jazz related events in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month in April, a lecture and a concert. In May, the Program presented the first annual Central American Traditions Festival with a variety of activities, from music to food demonstrations, book signing, and mural making. The film Walkout and a discussion with its producer, Moctesuma Esparza, were presented in June.
