There are 30 species of Rutelinae Scarabs in Texas per EGR.

The genus Chrysina (formerly Plusiotis) is composed primarily of showy large green beetles that range as far north as the Transpecos to southeast Arizona. The center of this genus' distribution is Mexico, though members occur as far south as northern South America. A few species are even gold, silver, or striped with red.

        Soft-bodied beetles with bioluminescent larviform females and larvae.
        Females emit light as a defensive mechanism; 
        Males have prominent branched antennae to detect the female's pheromones; their elytra (forewings) are reduced in length.
