Description: The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center was established to educate the public about the historic struggle to abolish human enslavement and secure freedom for all people. The Freedom Center teaches lessons of courage and cooperation from Underground Railroad history to promote collaborative learning, dialogue and action in order to inspire today's freedom movements.
Profile: The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center currently has on loan from the Smithsonian artifacts and images to illustrate two themes: "Legends of the Underground Railroad" and "Freedom and Slavery in the Making of the United States." A large changing gallery will showcase a variety of traveling and community exhibitions to illustrate how these themes are relevant today and may involve shows from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and various Smithsonian museums.
