Region: Midwest
Website: http://www.lakeview-museum.org
Description: The mission of the Lakeview Museum of Art and Science is to collect, study and interpret human culture and creativity in order to inspire lifelong learning for the Illinois River Region and the world in which we live.
Profile: The Peoria falcon, a beautifully crafted sheet of copper in the stylized shape of a falcon, is currently on loan to Lakeview from the department of anthropology at the National Museum of Natural History. The falcon is from the Mississippian period and was excavated near Peoria in the nineteenth century. The falcon is the highlight of an exhibit featuring objects from Lakeview's own collection including several spider gorgets, ornamental shells, and pottery, all from the Mississippian period. The falcon was unveiled in April 2003.
Within the Emperor's Garden: The Ten Thousand Springs Pavilion is a celebrated example of classical Chinese architecture, which stands within the Forbidden City in the heart of Bejing. A model of this famous model on loan from the Smithsonian Museum Conservation Institute will be displayed until June 2009.
The museum is currently in discussions with NMAH for items related to Caterpillar Inc.
