Description: The Virginia Museum of Natural History was founded in 1985 to interpret Virginia's natural heritage within a global context in ways that are relevant to all the citizens of the Commonwealth: 1) to investigate, preserve, and exhibit the various elements of natural history found in Virginia and other parts of the world; 2) to foster an understanding and appreciation of how man and the earth have evolved; and 3) to establish a state museum of natural history in Virginia.
