Tai Shan, the panda cub born at the National Zoo in July 2005, is a result of the Zoo's panda conservation efforts.
Kids can help save endangered giant pandas by supporting conservation and science programs through Friends of the National Zoo. If the temperate bamboo forests in the mountains of central China continue to be cut down, there will be no room for giant pandas in the wild. That's one reason why it's important to support conservation research in China, and why we need to have a population of giant pandas in zoos as an insurance policy against extinction.

At the National Zoo and in China, efforts to secure the giant panda's future need support to stay strong. These efforts help protect panda habitat and increase our understanding of how to keep pandas healthy and thriving.
