Security tightened for new year

Argonne-East will ring in the new year with heightened security measures. Windshield stickers will not be honored at the gate from 7 p.m. Dec. 30 to 6 a.m. Jan. 3. Employees will need to show a badge to enter the site.

Visitors with gate passes or on a perimeter access list will be required to show additional identification to be allowed on site. Visitors staying at Argonne guest facilities (lodging or the Guest House) will be required to provide identification to the protective force to enter Argonne-East. Security is coordinating with Sodexho Marriott to make sure visitors are informed of the changes.

Extra security personnel will be on duty and will conduct additional patrols. These measures are precautionary and are not the result of any specific threat. Questions may be directed to Security Manager Dave Metta at ext. 2-5737.

Herzenberg to speak on new book

Caroline Herzenberg (DIS) will speak on her book "Their Day in the Sun: Women of the Manhattan Project" at the First Friday Forum meeting on Friday, Jan. 7, from noon to 1 p.m. in Argonne-East's Building 201, Room 190. The book, written by Herzenberg (DIS) and Ball State University physics professor Ruth Howes, chronicles the unsung contributions of women to one of the most intensive scientific projects in history. Sponsored by Argonne's Women in Science and Technology program, the presentation is open to all.
