Developed using the Agency-wide Credibility Through Accountability (CTA) Process and reported in the Community Accomplishment Reporting System (CARS)

Primary measures are listed here and highlighted in bold in the tables below.

  • Percentage of US population living in communities managing programs to plant, protect and maintain their urban and community trees and forests.
  • Percentage of US population living in communities developing programs and/or activities to plant, protect, and maintain their urban and community trees and forests.
  • Number of people living in communities provided educational, technical, and/or financial assistance services.
  • Number of people living in communities that have the potential to develop management programs for their trees and forests with assistance from UCF technical, financial and/or educational program services.
  • Federal (USFS) dollar cost or expenditure per capita in community assisted.

1. Calculated: Output #3 divided by total Census population of communities in National Communities Database (NCD).

2. Percentage of US population living in communities developing programs and/or activities to plant, protect, and maintain their urban and community trees and forests.

OUTPUTS

Data Sources for Measures

1. Number of people living in communities provided educational, technical, and/or financial assistance services.

1. Calculated: Census Population of all participating communities = sum of 2+3 below.

2. Number of people living in communities that are developing programs/activities for their urban and community trees and forests.

2. Calculated: Census population of communities with one or more but not all of # 4-7 below as reported by the states.

3. Number of people living in communities managing their urban and community trees and forests.

3. Calculated: Census population of communities with all of # 4-7 below.

4. Number of communities with active urban & community tree and forest management plans developed from professionally-based resource assessments/inventories.

4. States report each community listed in NCD known to have active management plans.

5. Number of communities that employ or retain through written agreement the services of professional forestry staff who have at least one of these credentials:  (1) degree in forestry or related field and (2) ISA certified arborist or equivalent professional certification.

6. Number of communities that have adopted and can present documentation of local/statewide ordinances or policies that focus on planting, protecting, and maintaining their urban and community trees and forests.
