Children’s Defense Fund Calls Dingell One of the “Best Representatives for Children”

Michigan Congressman Gets Perfect Score on Advocacy Group’s 2006 Scorecard

Washington, DC - For his work on behalf of the nation's children, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) received high praise from one of America's best known child advocacy organizations.  The Children's Defense Fund Action Council (CDFAC) named Dingell one of the "Best Representatives for Children" based upon his voting record during the second session of the 109th Congress.

According to the recently released CDFAC 2006 Congressional Scorecard, which grades every Member of Congress based on key votes affecting children, Congressman Dingell voted to protect the health and well being of Michigan's children 100 percent of the time.  Congressman Dingell achieved this distinction by voting to support increased investment in education and health care programs for our children.

“Congressman Dingell is a dedicated advocate for children and has truly earned the distinction of being one of the best Representatives for children,” said Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) President Marian Wright Edelman.  “I applaud Congressman Dingell for his commitment to improving the lives of children in Michigan.”

Dingell said: “It is an honor to receive such a score from a fine organization like the Children's Defense Fund.  CDF highlights the concerns of American children who otherwise would have no voice. Much more needs to be done to ensure our children receive the tools they need to succeed in life. I'm proud of the fight we waged in 2006, and hope we can work to strengthen programs for children in 2007, beginning with increased coverage and funding in the reauthorization of the State Children's Health Insurance Program.”
