Alaska

A range survey was conducted on the remote Aleutian Island of Akun to document initial resource conditions to meet requirements for the Akutan Corporation’s participation in the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).

Chief Lancaster was in Tampa, Florida, recently to participate at the Soil and Water Conservation Society 2007 Annual Meeting. The Chief, Soil and Water Conservation Society Executive Director Craig Cox, and top NRCS leadership were on hand to participate at a roundtable dealing with the role of Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) in technology development and transfer.

NRCS, the Penobscot County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Heart of Maine Resource Conservation & Development Council, and USDA Service Center partners recently hosted an open house attended by Senior Advisor to the Chief Michael Sanders.  The event gave the public an opportunity to see the new Bangor, Maine, USDA Service Center designed by architect Judy Graebert.

Cather Woods, chairperson for the Houston County Chapter of the Landowners Association of Texas (LAT), recently held a Ranch and Wildlife Outreach Tour on her ranch in Crockett, Texas.  Forty-six people attended including family members, with Woods’ daughter Natalie Thomas and granddaughter Rhyan Ford assisting with registration.  The group was welcomed by Woods and  LAT State Chair Edward Cline.


Vermont

Vermont Diversity Day: A World Class Event
Just about everyone agrees that the recent NRCS/Farm Service Agency Diversity Day was a resounding success with more than 100 USDA employees learning about the folklore of America’s Indians and listening to pre-Civil War American Negro spirituals.

Russell Morgan
Russell Morgan

Russell Morgan has been selected as State Conservationist of Delaware, effective September 2, 2007.  Mr. Morgan is currently the National Program Leader for the Watershed Rehabilitation Program in Washington, D.C.

Effective August 6, 2007, Rosendo Trevino will serve as Acting Director of the Conservation Planning and Technical Assistance Division until further notice.  Mr. Trevino is currently the U.S. Mexico Border Conservation Coordinator.

Kevin D. Norton has been selected as State Conservationist of Louisiana, effective September 2, 2007. Mr. Norton is currently the Assistant State Conservationist for Programs in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
