Acid mine run-off and metal loading from the abandoned Guanomi mine were entering wetlands and streams that emptied into Pyramid Lake, Nevada, located on Pyramid Lake Tribal land, prompting the Bureau of Reclamation to designate it as the most potentially hazardous mine on the Reservation.

Find Local Conservation Resources on the Private Landowner Network
The Resources First Foundation Private Landowner Network (PLN) is an online source providing tools, information, and conservation resources designed for private landowners and conservation professionals. 
 

Please note that as of this issue of NRCS This Week, the Tech Tip has been replaced by Technology News.  This change was requested by Science and Technology Deputy Area leadership.

Download Area of PLANTS Updated
From the PLANTS home page click on the Download  heading in the left navigation box for a description of the updated download area.  Note that several new items have been added.

The State PLANTS GSAT Lists has been renamed NRCS State GSAT Lists.  Also new to this area are the NRCS State Plants Lists that provide users with a PLANTS list for their State along with State Common (plant) Names. 

Each NRCS State Office has a State PLANTS coordinator who maintains State Common Names that may populate this list.  If the State Common Name has not been populated, the National Common Name will appear as the default. We’ve also made the download portion of the advanced search accessible titled as Advanced Search Download.

NRCS This Week features a weekly historical photo and caption.  NHQ, districts, States, RC&D councils, and all other NRCS entities are invited to submit a historical photo of activities or individuals who have worked or are working for the agency along with a caption.
