Congressman Dingell receives 100 percent rating from League of Conservation Voters

Dearborn, MI - Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released its scorecard to rate Members of Congress on energy and conservation issues for 2008.  Congressman John D. Dingell (D- MI15) received a 100 percent rating.  In addition, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which is chaired by Congressman Dingell, received a score of 100 percent.  LCV based its score for the House on 13 votes impacting energy and environmental issues.  The votes included extending and expanding tax credits for renewable energy and energy efficiency, opposing drilling in environmentally sensitive areas like the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, providing much-needed grants for public transportation, supporting and protecting public lands and wilderness, increasing funding so our farmers can participate in conservation programs, and supporting environmental education for our nation’s youth.

Said Dingell, “I am pleased the League of Conservation Voters recognizes my commitment to energy independence, mitigating the effects of climate change, and protecting the environment.  While 2008 has been a good and productive year for achieving these goals, our fight is far from over.”

Dingell plans to move full-speed ahead on energy and environmental issues during the 111th Congress.  Last week the Energy and Commerce Committee released draft legislation on a plan to combat climate change.  The bill, which calls for an economy wide cap-and-trade program, will reduce green house gas emissions by 80 percent below 2005 levels by 2050.  Said Dingell: “I look forward to working with my colleagues and the next President toward swift enactment of climate change legislation during the 111th Congress.”  For more information on the draft, visit http://energycommerce.house.gov.
