OAK RIDGE, Tenn. —

A local man died Thursday morning at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, after he was hit in the head by a teenager who was apparently trying to protect his mother.

Students at Norwood Elementary School in Oliver Springs paid a special patriotic tribute to the U.S. military on Veterans Day with a PowerPoint presentation displaying pictures of veterans from the families and teachers of the Norwood community.

Pellissippi State student named Governor's Volunteer Star of the Year

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. —

Sean Armbruster, a Video Production Technology student at Pellissippi State Technical Community College, has been selected as a Governor's Volunteer Star of the Year. Armbruster was recognized by Gov. Phil Bredesen at the first Governor's Volunteer Stars Awards ceremony on Oct. 27.

The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce's annual Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. This is the first time in many years that the parade has been held at night.

First UMC completes mission to Nicaragua

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. —

A mission team of 25 people from First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge recently went to the city and state of Matagalpa in Nicaragua on a medical mission trip. We distributed large amounts of medicine to needy people in rural villages. There was also a vision team distributing eyeglasses, as well as a dental team.

The Pilot Club of Oak Ridge will hold its annual Arts and Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Shep Lauder Room and Social Room of the Oak Ridge Civic Center, 1401 Oak Ridge Turnpike.
