2008 Service to America Medal Finalists
On Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at a Capitol Hill breakfast in Washington, D.C., federal employees from across the country were honored as finalists for the 2008 Service to America Medals.
Their stories illustrate the dedication of federal workers across America who do extraordinary work. Whether it’s the continuing effort to protect our homeland, safeguard our health, or preserve the soundness of our economy, their work directly impacts the quality of our lives.
This year’s 29 finalists include public servants who boast achievements in fields including foreign affairs; scientific research, renewable energy; consumer protection; health care; tsunami tracking; refugee resettlement; malaria prevention; environmental conservation; human rights; disaster relief and border enforcement.
The 2008 finalists come from 20 federal agencies including the Department of Agriculture, Air Force, Army, Army Corps of Engineers, National Institute of Science and Technology, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Food and Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Patrol, Fish & Wildlife Service, National Park Service, Department of Justice, Department of State, Veterans Affairs, USAID, EPA, Federal Trade Commission, Government Accountability Office, General Services Administration, and NASA.
