What: An intensive 5½-day working institute to guide your school districts through the rigorous process of developing a tailored strategic plan—a plan for initiating and implementing an effective research-based science education program based on research and  best practices.

When: July 12–17, 2009

Cost:

$6,000 per team of five/$1,200 per person prior to April 18, 2009;
$7,000 per team of five/ $1,400 per person after April 18, 2009

Team Composition:

A five-person leadership team committed to the improvement of science education composed of:

  • Two administrators (superintendent, assistant superintendent, curriculum coordinators, etc.)
  • Two science teachers
  • One scientists, engineers or community leaders representing a corporation, academic institution, museum, science technology center, foundation, government, or other nonprofit organization

Institute Goals

TheNSRC Science Education Institutes for Leadership Development and Strategic Plannning guide school district leadership teams through an engaging process to develop the knowledge for creating a strategic plan to initiate and implement an effective research-based science education program. During this five and a half-day institute of interactive workshops and discussions, strategic leadership teams will:

  • Learn about research and best practices for transforming K–12 science education programs;
  • Develop a five-year strategic plan based on the five elements of reform: curriculum, professional
    development, materials support, assessment, and administrative and community support;
  • Join the NSRC nationwide network of hundreds of professionals representing 1,200 districts and
    numerous states working to reform K–12 science education programs.
