The result is a nutrient rich water that is virtually odor free and safely disposed of through existing sewage treatment facilities. It is currently used throughout Japan to reduce the amount of food waste being sent to landfills and other disposal sites. The equipment can be incorporated into the waste systems of hotels, restaurants, resorts, cruise ships, government facilities, remote camps and any other facility that generates solid food waste. Augspurger's mobile unit is an electrically powered batch system using a drum with a volume of 3 cubic yards, mounted on a support chassis which includes a drive system to rotate the drum. Cycle time runs three to four weeks, with the unit being rotated and fan aerated daily by either manual or automatic control.
Augspurger's second model is also mobile and electrically powered. It is a continuous process system with a volume of 10 to 100 cubic yards, depending on the size of the unit. Material is added each day and after three to four weeks, finished compost is expelled daily.
