Outreach and Community Services

Welcome to the museum without walls! Community and Constituent Services staff is dedicated to providing the highest quality services and programming to our Native and non-Native constituents throughout the Western Hemisphere and Hawai‘i. Facilitating access to the museum’s cultural resources, initiating and cultivating partnerships with Native communities as well as cultural organizations, and disseminating accurate and up-to-date information on the museum’s programs, events, and services are our priorities.

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) works in collaboration with the Native peoples of the Western Hemisphere and Hawai‘i to protect and foster indigenous cultures, reaffirm traditions and beliefs, encourage contemporary artistic expression, and provide a forum for Native voices.

NMAI’s Community and Constituent Services department is a cornerstone of the museum’s commitment to outreach, providing a vital link between museum staff and collections and Native communities.  Museum resources are shared with diverse audiences through internships, Native arts programs, professional training, radio programming, and the NMAI website.

It is our wish to facilitate a positive and rewarding experience for our program participants. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require additional information or have comments and/or suggestions regarding our outreach programming.  Please view the PDFs throughout this section and explore the various program areas described here to learn more about the wide variety of opportunities the NMAI offers.
