Theodore Eugene (Ted) Madey, Ph.D., 70, the State of New Jersey Professor of Surface Science at Rutgers University and a pioneer in the field of physics and chemistry of solid surfaces, died at his home on Sunday, July 27, 2008, following a battle with lung cancer.

President's Report (Fall'08)

It is time  ...  to start anew.  The 25th of July2008 was like every other day, except it wasn’t. You probably didn’t notice. That was a good thing. We planned it that way, and the plan was executed flawlessly.

Over the past year, the AVS purchased a new office space in Manhattan on the 15th floor of 125 Maiden Lane. The space was gutted and renovated to meet the operational needs of the AVS. So, after eighteen years at 120Wall Street the staff packed the final boxes on July 24, 2008, and left the office around 11p.m. In the middle of the night, the movers transported the AVS possessions to the new location. The next morning, July 25, 2008, AVS opened for business in its new home. 

The New York AVS staff was fully engaged in making the move a smooth operation that was transparent to the membership. In the months and days leading up to the move, and the days that followed, the staff maintained their high level of service to the organization in their regular duties and responsibilities while they engaged in additional move related duties. They succeeded beyond expectations. 

We owe a debt of gratitude to Yvonne, Angela, Jeannette, Keith, Peter, Steve and Ricky.  We also owe a thank you to Steve . . .
