President Bush to Recognize Akron Man for Dedication to Volunteer Service

President George W. Bush will meet Anson A. Park when he arrives in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday, April 24, 2003. Park, a regional area manager with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, volunteers with the Akron Urban League to help young adults develop job skills.

Earlier this year, President Bush celebrated the first anniversary of the USA Freedom Corps – his initiative to engage all Americans in service to their neighbors and their nation. President Bush is recognizing individuals around the country like Park who are answering the call to volunteer service.

Since college, Park has been an active volunteer in his community, dedicating most of his time helping young people. In 2002, Park began volunteering with the Asset Program at the Akron Urban League, a class designed to assist students, ages16-21, with job skills and training, career guidance and continuing education programs. Park has recently volunteered to become a mentor through the Urban League and will soon be matched with a young adult. Park has also volunteered with several community service activities supported by his employer, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, including renovation of a local women’s shelter and raising funds for nonprofit organizations including the American Cancer Society and Muscular Dystrophy Association. Enterprise Rent-A-Car provides employees two paid days of leave each year to volunteer at a community or non-profit organization of their choice.

President Bush created the USA Freedom Corps office at the White House to foster a culture of service, citizenship and responsibility. Through the USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the call to volunteer service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find opportunities in their own neighborhoods through the USA Freedom Corps web site at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
