File Format Information

Inform Files

WARNING! If you are connected to a LAN do not download InForms from this web page without checking  with your LAN administrator.  The versions of the InForms on this web page and your LAN are exactly the same!  Downloading InForms from the web which are already on your LAN will result in loss of previously saved information.

The InForms files are presented as standard self-extracting files which can  be downloaded and installed on your PC. These files are only useable with InForms Filler software.  These files are intended for users who do not have access to the forms on a LAN and need a few of our forms.  Before downloading any of these forms, make sure you have a c:\inf41\forms and a c:\inf41\database directory on your PC.  To download these files:

(1) Click on the blue InForms button
(2) Save to c:\temp,
(3) From Windows, Start, Run c:\temp\form#.exe ( form is the form prefix and # is the actual form number,  i.e., ad700.exe),
(4) From the Winzip self-extractor window, select unzip, ok, and close,
(5) From Windows, Start, Run c:\windows\temp\form-#.exe (form is the form prefix and # is the actual form number, i.e., ad-700.exe).

The form and database(s) have been installed on your PC.   To use the form, you must start your Informs software and retrieve the file.

PDF Files

pdf [button]

The PDF files require Adobe Acrobat Reader software, which can be downloaded free from Adobe.com. PDF files can be accessed by clicking on the green PDF button. These files are intended for users who do not have the InForms Filler software and need some of the forms. These files may either be printed or saved on your local PC. These files are not electronically fillable. They provide hard copy for manual fill-in.

PDF Fillable

The PDF/F files require Adobe Acrobat Reader software, which can be downloaded free from Adobe.com. These files can be filled-in and printed using Adobe Acrobat Reader software. You cannot save a completed form with Adobe Acrobat Reader software. Users must have the full version of the Adobe Acrobat 5.0 or above in order to electronically save completed PDF versions of forms.

When using Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, click on the tan PDF/F button (this will launch Adobe Acrobat), fill-in the data, and print the form. For users with a full version of Adobe Acrobat software, you may save a completed form using the following steps:

  1. Click on the diskette icon (saves a copy of the file) on the Adobe Acrobat tool bar;
  2. Select the drive and directory of your choice to Save file in;
  3. Name the form (file name); and
  4. Press Save.

If you should encounter problems using these PDF/F files, contact Brenda Clark via email at bclark.ars.usda.gov or 301-504-1117.
