Interesting info

One of the most strikingly beautiful wildflowers of the eastern United States.

The bright red flowers attract hummingbirds.

Cardinal flowers and monkey flowers bloom at the same time in the same habitat, making an attractive pairing.

Flowers like this are preserved when we protect our wetlands.

Height: 2' - 5'

Frequency: Several plants found in low, very wet woods, especially at northern tip of the overcup oak slough.

Blooms: August

Range: Found infrequently throughout Indiana.

Known from New Brunswick to Kansas and from Florida to Texas.
