Home Grown Support for the CFC from USDA
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) kicked off their 2008 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) yesterday in their Jamie L. Whitten Building patio in front of an overflow crowd. Secretary of Agriculture, and their CFC Chair Ed Schafer was on hand to lend his support for this year's fund drive. "We find ourselves in challenging financial times but despite that, I feel we will not only meet our CFC goals, but exceed them" said Secretary Schafer.
The festive event also featured remarks from CFC Vice Chair, Assistant Secretary for Administration, Boyd Rutherford. Mr. Rutherford congratulated is co-workers on their past support of the campaign and encouraged them to participate in the CFC once again this year.
John Crew, Director of Operations, Departmental Administration acted as the event's master of cermonies.
The kickoff started with the presentations of colors from the Dunbar High School Color Guard and the singing of the National Anthem by Kathryn Hill from USDA's Office of Communications. The event also featured a charity fair and charity speakers from the National 4-H and Food for Others.
Perhaps the highlight was when Secretary Schafer pinned USDA's first Double Eagle pin on USDA's first employee to pledge 2% of her salary to the CFC.
Following the formal presentations, the packed house was treated to baked goods and a prize giveaway.
