Alexander on 9/11
I had a telephone interview with Sen. Lamar Alexander this morning to discuss some stuff he's doing regarding power plant emissions. The story's on Knoxnews.com. Given today's anniversary, I asked the senator where he was on Sept. 11, 2001.
"I had retired from politics. I thought I was through. I was chairman of an education company at the time, and having a board meeting in Boston. An employee of the company walked in and said a small plane just flew into a building in New York. We thought that was terrible. In a minute, somebody walked and said an airline flew into a second building and something terrible is happening."
Alexander said he was stuck in Boston until Friday (Sept. 11 was on Tuesday in 2001), before returning to Tennessee.
The senator said he planned to attend a memorial this morning on the Capitol steps.
