Urban and Rural Community Economic Development
The
Office of Community Services supports Community Development
Corporations (CDCs) including CDCs operated by American Indian
and Alaska Native faith-based and community organizations that
are experienced in implementing economic development projects.
A
CDC is a corporation governed by a board of directors consisting
of community residents and business and civic leaders. Its principal
purpose is the development, implementation and maintenance of
low-income housing or community development activities.
Funding
allows CDCs to provide technical and financial assistance to
businesses, which results in job creation. The program is designed
to increase access by low-income individuals to employment and
business development opportunities.
