Start
Head
Start provides comprehensive developmental services for America’s
low-income, preschool children age three
to five and their families. Head Start provides diverse services
consistent with its goals for success in education, health, parent
involvement and social services. Head Start also includes the
American Indian Head Start and Migrant Head Start programs and
Early Head Start, which expands the benefits of early childhood
development to low-income families with children under age three
and to pregnant women.
Grants
to conduct Head Start programs are awarded to local public or
private, non-profit or for-profit agencies.
